The February 2026 simplification

Effective February 20, 2026, the Korean Embassy waived the long-dreaded 3-month bank statement requirement for Filipino tourist applicants. You still submit a bank certificate, but the detailed statement-by-statement history is no longer required.

This removed the single most stressful document from the pile. What remains matters more now: your employment evidence and overall consistency.

Where and how to apply

All applications go to KVAC — the Korea Visa Application Center, 9/F Brittany Hotel, BGC, Taguig. No travel agency needed; you apply directly. Prepare: passport, application form, photo, bank certificate + ITR (BIR 2316), and COE or business registration.

Fees are friendly: the visa itself is free for stays up to 59 days; you pay the KVAC service fee. Processing typically runs 10–15 working days — the embassy adjusts this often via dated notices, so check the latest before you plan.

What actually improves your odds

Travel history is king: a used Japan, US, or Schengen visa within the last 5 years meaningfully speeds things up and softens scrutiny. Stable employment documents matter more than a fat one-time balance — ₱100k+ is the commonly cited comfort zone, pero ang totoo, consistency ang hinahanap.

First-timers with modest funds but solid employment get approved every day. Freelancers: business permits, contracts, and client invoices do the work a COE would.

Apply 1–2 months before your trip. Peak seasons (spring, autumn foliage, Christmas) stretch processing — the posted 10–15 working days is a floor, not a promise. Track via KVAC and never book non-refundable flights before release.
